The Street Waffle
Try thinking beyond breakfast. The Liege waffle is a street pastry that is often eaten plain as a quick snack. Yet options are limitless, as it can range from savory to sweet or breakfast to dessert. Deep pockets and high sides allow the waffle to hold delicious toppings, such as mouth watering bacon and melted cheese. Studded with pearl sugar and pressed between two hot irons, the sugar melts and caramelizes on top of this dense, buttery pastry. At Mama and the Pig, Chef and Owner Haley Prest, prepares the dough from scratch using fresh, local ingredients. It is our mission to utilize San Diego’s resources and support the farmers here in our own backyard.
